3 Blues born in a litter of 8 were a total surprise to the breeder, Elizabeth Dunn of Von Dodin Kennels. These photos were sent to me in late March of 2000
The dam, Ivy Leagues von Schonenbeck was not known to be a blue carrier until this litter was whelped. Her pedigree can be seen here.
Since it takes two copies of a recessive gene to cause the recessive to be expressed the sire is also a blue carrier and this too was unknown to the breeder until the 3 surprise blues popped up in this litter. The pedigree of the sire, Eirwlyn's Eiko v Kirschental, can be seen here.
One of the Blue pups at perhaps 2 weeks of age or less, the breeder didn't specify the age.
A female Blue by the name of Adrian Von Dodin at 3 weeks of age. It would be my guess that Adrian is a Powder Blue by the intense sheen she still shows on the  tips of her fur at 3 weeks. Steel Blue pups as a general rule lose this sheen quite early on. Although they many times do end up with a slight frosted effect or sheen to the tips of their facial and muzzle hairs as adults.
Athos Von Dodin at 4 weeks of age. Most definately a Steel Blue. Now compare his picture to Adrians picture below taken the same day.
Adrian Von Dodin at 4 weeks of age. Her much lighter coat color is quite evident in this shot.
Astrid Von Dodin at 4 weeks of age. This pup also appears to be a Powder Blue, more evident in a shot with Athos on the next page.
