Renegade and Gypsy's photo page
Here are pictures of my pup Renegade (Whelped 2/13/99) and our newest freind Gypsy (Whelped 6/13/99). Renegade and Gypsy are both purebred German Shepherd Dogs who carry a recessive gene which causes their coat color to appear "diluted" next to other Shepherds. There are two kinds of dilutes. Liver, which is a chocolate brown, and blue which is what both Renegade and Gypsy are. As young pups Blues are usually a shade of gray. Sometimes bluish in color and other times so dark they appear black. Blues also inherit coat patterns from their parents. This is seperate from the blue gene. For instance Renegade is a blue and red "Saddle back". Gypsy is a blue and tan "Blanket back". There are also solid blues, which would have been solid blacks had they not inherited the blue recessive gene. They will continue to change as they grow and it is quite fascinating watching their coat colors go through such changes. Blues also normally have light eyes (many times yellow or amber among others) and their nose leather is usually a shade of gray. This coat color and the light eye color are serious faults according to the AKC. The nose leather not being black is a disqualifying fault therefore they cannot compete in AKC Conformation events. They are however eligible to compete in all other venues.

Gypsy the same day outside sniffing around. Notice her eyes are still quite blue. They went to a blue green for a short time and are now turning a light amber.
