This female pups photo was sent to me by a breeder in December of 2000. The breeder did not wish to be named and reported that this was one of three surprise Liver pups whelped in that particular litter. One female Liver Sable and one Liver and Tan male rounded out the trio among the other traditionally colored pups whelped. He was reportedly not going to repeat the breeding due to the Liver recessive doubling up between that particular bitch and dog thereby producing Liver progeny. I did not hear from him again but in his initial letter to me he did state he would look for photos of the other two Livers whelped in that litter. This photo is edited in such a way to make me wonder if he was purposefully blocking out any background objects that may have identified him as the breeder. Such as his home or a sign. Many breeders of GSD's who stick strictly to the standard would be humiliated for their peers to discover their lines carried the Liver recessive in it. This would also cause many other  top breeders to choose not to breed to their stud or bitch to any dogs from his lines since they realize the possibility of the resulting pups carrying the recessive as well and whelping Liver pups in the future is very high if paired with another carrier of the recessive.

This pup is extremely light in color and considering her age at the time of the photo the possibility exists that she too may have been a Fawn. Her eyes look light blue and her coat color is very close to a Liver pup I photographed in person years ago that I now wonder as well if it wasn't actually a Fawn pup. The possibility also exists that this female pup is just a light Cinnamon Liver affected by the same paling modifiers that cause the Powder variation in Blues.
